Helpful Tips
Buy an Ankarakart from kiosks at any metro or ANKARAY station to tap-and-ride on buses, metro, and light rail.
Use the EGO CEPTE app to top up your Ankarakart and see live bus arrivals.
Airport shuttle Havaist (route 442) departs from Kızılay Meydan and costs roughly half the price of a taxi.
Metro lines M1 and M2 connect Kızılay to the intercity bus terminal (AŞTİ) in about 15 minutes.
Common Scams to Avoid
Taxi drivers at Ankara Esenboğan Airport have been documented charging inflated flat rates instead of using the meter for trips into the city center, sometimes demanding 3-4 times the normal fare. Always insist on using the meter (taksimetre). Pre-book through the airport's official taxi kiosk. This simple step dodges the scam.
Unlicensed 'airport taxi' touts inside the terminal offer rides at premium rates, claiming official taxis have long waits. These drivers operate without proper permits and typically lack insurance. Use only the official taxi queue outside arrivals. Yellow cabs with 'Taksi' signs wait there.
Currency exchange booths at the airport have been noted for offering significantly worse rates than city center banks or ATMs, with some adding undisclosed commission fees. Exchange only a small amount for immediate needs at the airport. Then use city center banks or ATMs. Better rates await.
